Despite what Steven might tell you, we met when I was technically his boss — slinging espresso at a little beachside coffee shop. Our friendship began with spilled coffee, broken mugs, and the kind of laughter that comes from instant connection. Over time, Steven became one of my closest friends. He waited (very patiently) until we were no longer coworkers — after I graduated esthetics school — to ask me to dinner. That first date came with a book, a handwritten note, and a gentle nudge to embrace change. Not long after, he sent me a playlist — songs he’d quietly collected over the years of our friendship. I was so overwhelmed that our first few dates were hilariously awkward. But Steven gave me the space to grow into myself, never rushing, always steady. He’s been growing with me ever since. Now, he’s Arlo’s dog dad, my general contractor, my favorite person, and soon… my husband.
