April the giraffe was pregnant and an internet sensation in the time leading to the birth of her calf at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York, with onlookers watching her progress via a live internet feed. Who are crazy animal lovers that tuned into April's wellbeing? Adrian's mom Kelli in Alaska and my Aunt "Tisa" Lisa in Florida. Kelli was sharing photos and info with those in the group watching April and Tisa saw Adrian's photo and decided she had to get us together. We became Facebook friends and met in November, when he came down with friends for a roofing job. We met in Titusville, FL and went to one of the only restaurants that was still open that weeknight ... World of Beer. We totally hit it off and began dating shortly thereafter.
The community garage sale was taking place on a hot and humid April day. I woke up early to set up the sale while Adrian prepared for work, and managed the sale with my mom who came over to offload a few things and keep me company. Many hours later, the garage sale was finished and I was exhausted. Adrian came home from work and, usually he would want to take some time to relax before leaving again but this time, he really wanted us to take Tucker for a walk at our favorite outdoorsy area, Central Winds Park. After a lot of resistance, I gave in. We walked our usual route and along the way saw my mom, wearing the brightest blue shirt possible, with her back pressed into the very green foliage with a camera in hand. Definitely not subtle! She grabbed Tucker's leash from Adrian, who then lead me to the prettiest proposal spot! He had rose petals strewn about, long stemmed roses lining a picnic blanket with a Marry Me sign centered on one edge, and photos of us throughout our relationship strung around a giant park tree. It was gorgeous! He got down on a knee and asked if I would marry him. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to freak him out a little and by saying, "well.... this is awkward, but.....", and then after he looked concerned and mom gasped, I said "YES!" My brother Chris ran out with a camera at some point during all that and I was shocked to see him there too. Chris took a few cute proposal pictures of us and then had us reenact the photos Zach Galifianakis and Kate McKinnon took in Masterminds. People congratulated us left and right and I caught a second wind, no longer exhausted from the garage sale, up late sharing the news with as many people possible!
