They swiped right on each other in July 2018. They had messaged a few times, when a colleague invited Kiley to a French-speaking happy hour - oui oui, Kiley didn't know any French, but apparently that wasn't an issue. And although Maxime didn’t work for the company, his roommate did, so he tagged along for the free drinks ;) It was a perfect summer night at Hotel 1 Brooklyn when they first saw one another in person - Kiley whispered to her friend, "Who's that handsome one?" But since the friend didn't know who Max was, they didn't exchange more than a glance that night. They continued to text while Kiley was traveling the next week. Upon her return Max offered to meet up to jog in the park or to watch a documentary. At that point, “Netflix & Chill” wasn't of interest to Kiley, nor was a sweaty first date… But then Max's French directness came through; he said something like, "So do you want to meet or not? I’ve offered many options and you keep rejecting all of them." Gulp, talk about miscommunication - Max was just being creative. It just so happened they were both free that very night. They spent the entire evening talking and laughing; unaware of the hours passing. They went on just one more date when Max revealed he had to return to France to renew his visa. Although unfortunate, there was hope - there was something about their connection. They stayed in touch while Max traveled, but then missed each other during the short overlap of his return and Kiley's trip overseas. When they were both back in NYC, they met up at a popular outdoor bar in Brooklyn. As Max introduced Kiley to his roommate, who stood up well-over 6 feet, it occurred to Kiley that she'd seen this guy before... That's when they realized they had crossed paths at the French happy hour 8 weeks prior... And, if you look closely at Max’s Instagram post from July 21, 2018, you’ll see Kiley. Either fate or dating app algorithms, they’re happy to have found each other in this immense city.

Ils ont matché en juillet 2018. Ils se sont écrits pendant quelques semaines, quand un collègue a invité Kiley à une happy hour pour les français vivant à NYC. Oui, Kiley ne parlait aucun français, mais ca n'était pas un souci. Aussi, Maxime ne travaillait pas pour l'enterprise, mais son coloc oui, donc il est venu pour les verres gratuits ;) C'était la soirée parfaite à Hotel 1 Brooklyn quand ils se sont vus en personne. Kiley a demandé à son ami, "Qui est ce beau gosse?" Mais l’ami ne le connaissait pas. Donc, les deux n’ont pas discutè ce soir là… Kiley a dû voyager la semaine suivante donc les deux ont continué à se texter jusqu'à ce qu’ils soient de retour à NYC. Puis, Max a proposé un rencard, comme faire du jogging ensemble au parc près de chez eux (Kiley aimait courir), ou aller regarder un film. A l'époque, Kiley ne comprenait pas que Maxime essayait d'être original... D'un coup, Max a été très français (et très direct), quand il a dit, "Est-ce que tu veux qu'on se rencontre ou pas? Je t'ai proposé beaucoup d'options et tu m'as rejeté". Oups, il y avait un malentendu. Heureusement, les deux étaient libres ce soir là. Ils ont passé la soirée à papoter et rigoler, sans voir l'heure passer. Ils ont eu un autre rencard quand Max a dit qu'il retournait en France pour renouveler son visa. C'était triste mais il y avait une connection entre les deux. Ils sont restés en contact quand Max voyageait et ils se sont loupés pendant le court moment où ils étaient tous les deux à Brooklyn. Quand Kiley est rentrée de vacances, ils se sont retrouvés à un bar populaire de Brooklyn. Quand Max a présenté son coloc, Kiley s'est rendue compte qu'elle l'avait déjà vu… C'est le moment où ils ont réalisé que leurs chemins s'étaient croisés à l'happy hour français 8 semaines auparavant.
