He thought she was cute; she thought he was funny. Though only seeing each other in passing at ballroom classes and competitions through a club sport at OSU, they were nothing more than familiar faces to each other... UNTIL - one night after swing dancing with Kiersten, Vance sent a random Facebook message to her that read, “Jesus said unto John, ‘Come fourth and you will receive eternal life.’ John came fifth and won a toaster.” Kiersten, who hadn’t conversed much with him at classes, was quite confused and half convinced the message was a scam. After a little thought, she concluded “what’s there to lose by responding?” She sent back, “what good is a toaster without the Bread of Life?” To which Vance replied, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word from the mouth of God” Matthew 4:4. Kiersten, quite intrigued at his response decided to play along and replied back with another scripture that correlated to his. They sent Bible verses back and forth for an hour or two, to which their conversation has never ceased to this day. A week later, Vance mustered up the courage to ask Kiersten to go for a walk in the park. A few paces in, Kiersten “slipped” on a patch of ice, grabbed Vance by the arm, smiled and never let go. She’s been falling for him ever since, and he’s never failed to catch her.
