The Proposal

What was supposed to be a cozy European Christmas market vacation quickly turned adventurous when Jake suggested, “What if we added… Paris?” Ariel immediately raised an eyebrow — suspicion level: medium. After all, Paris isn’t exactly famous for Christmas markets. The universe didn’t make it easy. Jake had convinced Ariel to pack a nice outfit for a special meal in Paris, but her luggage got lost, and she had to pick comfy outfits that could last the rest of the trip. Jake was left in an H&M, quietly (or not so quietly) freaking out as Ariel happily grabbed sweaters and jeans, completely unaware of the plan unfolding. She now says he was acting like a little weirdo. Jeans became the look of the day — suspicion level: rising. On the morning of the proposal, Jake told Ariel they had a “special river breakfast on the Seine.” It sounded believable enough to get her out the door early, and it got them to the exact spot a Parisian photographer had scouted. No breakfast awaited — just the perfect moment. As rain fell softly around the Eiffel Tower, Jake tried to deliver the speech he had rehearsed a million times in his head. What actually came out? A bit of word vomit. But one thing he knew for sure: he told Ariel how much he loved her and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. The rest… well, who knows what else came out. Ariel said yes anyway, laughter and happy tears blending with the soft Parisian drizzle — suspicion level: instantly dissolved. Afterward, they enjoyed a very nice Paris meal right in front of the Eiffel Tower. But the adventure wasn’t over: they had to rush back to the airport to battle French airline employees for Ariel’s missing luggage — a fight they (Ariel) eventually won. Paris may not be the Christmas market capital of Europe, but for Jake and Ariel, it became the most magical stop of the whole trip.
