The Proposal

"It's a long shot"

Janet and Matt drove to the Bay Area on the first weekend of May 2022 to attend their good friend Andy's annual Kentucky Derby party. That Saturday, May 7th, was a day full of fun, laughs, and horse racing. Everyone was stunned to see the horse that won the Kentucky Debry had 80-1 odds of winning, and he won on a long shot! Unbeknownst to Janet, Matt had been carrying an engagement ring in his pocket all day, waiting for the right moment to pop the question. He told Andy and their friend Adam his plans to propose that night, and Andy immediately ran to get Bri and the champagne. Meanwhile, Janet sat by the fire, appreciating her fun day with everyone without an inkling of an idea of what was happening around her. "Would you like some champagne?" Bri asked Janet. "Sure!" Janet replied. Andy, Bri, and Adam took their seats around the fire as Matt snuck behind Janet and pulled out the ring. "Hey, babe," said Matt. "Hey," Janet replied, turning her head to look at him. It slowly started to sink in that Matt was getting down on one knee to propose. "No, you're not doing this right now," said Janet. She was in complete disbelief. "Stop. I can't believe you are doing this." She continued. Tears started to fall down her face. "You have champagne in your hand," Matt said. "It was a long shot today, and I figured I'd take a long shot right now. Will you do me the greatest pleasure of my life and say yes? Will you marry me?" While crying and laughing, Janet nodded and said, "Yes."
