On June 9th, I met someone I didn’t even know would become my piece of Heaven. I had been on dating apps for a little while just seeing what was out there. I knew I wanted to have someone serious as the bachelor life just seemed boring and overrated to me. I had been praying for God to just give me a sign if a serious long-term thing was necessarily for me or if I still had some work to do before that came my way. Well, on June 9th I was on the app Hinge and had swiped right on this beautiful young lady with these lovely curls and a smile that could melt the coldest heart and her name was Kiara Hurst. To my surprise, she had also swiped right on me. We talked for a while and when I say a while I mean all day, every day. She was my first and last text. I couldn’t wait until 4:30pm to get off and call her to hear her voice. I said to myself “This woman is as amazing as she is beautiful”. I wanted to explore the potential of being with Kiara, so I asked her out on a date. We met at Fifth & Broadway in downtown Nashville for the first time on June 20th. I knew she was something special the first time I laid eyes on her. She was wearing a purple Nike outfit and man the curls were in my Kiara voice “Giving what they were supposed to give”. She gave me one of the warmest hugs I have ever had. We ate at The Pharmacy in the food court. The conversation and laughs were nonstop, and I didn’t want to leave. I left that first date and told Ms. Ebonie “I just ate lunch with my future wife”. On August 20th, was the next big test. I had to meet the two most important people in her life. They all but came up to my knee and man did their opinion hold some weight. They were McKinley and Kam; her beautiful children and they have grown to be two people I can’t wait to get home to and see when I get off work. Time went on and my love for Kiara, McKinley, and Kam grew and grew. The conversations we had were different. The embrace was different between us. The amount of attention to detail she showed to me, and my needs were different. This was truly a love I had never experienced before from another person. I found myself wanting to make sure that whatever they needed, I would find a way to give them. Kiara had really came in my life and changed it around for the better. She never asked me to do for the kids and was somewhat reluctant when I did initially. I later explained to her that when I took her as my girlfriend, the kids happiness and wellbeing was part of the package. They became my kids too and would be treated as such. I finally nailed down the idea of doing a scavenger hunt to all our different dates that would lead Kiara to Maggiano’s where I would ask a question that would change lives and make things a little more real. The day of the engagement had me on pins and needles. I was so nervous the whole day. What would I say? How would it go? What was I going to wear? The questions were endless. We finally made it to the restaurant and the time was here. The scavenger hunt was done, and the nerves were gone. As I stood next to a table with friends and family waiting, in walked Kiara Nichole Hurst and out went my breath. She was so gorgeous, and it was like I was seeing her for the first time walking up to me on Fifth and Broadway wearing the purple Nike outfit but this time she has on a stunning dress and instead of curls her hair is straight. The thing that was the same from the first time I saw her was I said to myself “There goes my wife”. In that moment the Earth stood still, and it was just us and I couldn’t believe God took his time and made this woman just for me and give me My Piece of Heaven. I expressed my love for her and got down on one knee and next thing you know, here you are reading our love story and (hopefully) preparing to say you’re coming to see us get married.
