We met on the campus of Old Dominion University in 2009. As freshmen in college we lived two doors down from each other in Gresham East residence hall. Throughout college we were friends and frequently crossed paths. Neither of us had any idea that thirteen years later, we'd be getting married. Fast forward to September 2016 at ODU's homecoming. We reconnected and agreed to go on a date once we got back home in Richmond. We began dating and made it official on December 18, 2016.

On New Year's Day 2021 Kiara had plans to attend a banquet with her sister, Ashley. However, those plans were derailed when Ashley left her purse at home. Upon entering, Kiara was surprised to see Cory standing in front of a "Will you marry me?" backdrop surrounded by pictures of the them. With Tamia's "I'm So Into You" playing in the background, Cory got on one knee and popped the question.
