It all began on the campus of Elizabeth City State University. Darius was playing basketball inside of Williams Hall when I happened to walk by with our mutual friend, Cam. That’s when I saw him for the first time—quiet, composed, and incredibly handsome. I remember thinking to myself, "Wow… he has such a nice smile… and that body!" He didn’t say much at first, but something about him caught my attention—and clearly, he was paying attention too. As time went on, we got to know each other in the most natural, effortless way. What started as a simple connection slowly turned into a deep bond, built on laughter, trust, patience, and love. We grew together, supported one another, and created a relationship that felt like home. One moment that stands out in my heart happened on the morning of our college graduation. I was feeling overwhelmed, struggling to get my makeup just right, and starting to panic about being late. Without a word, Darius reached out, gently took my hand, and helped me finish. It was such a small gesture, but it reminded me of the kind of man he is—calm, thoughtful, and always there when I need him. Then came February 9th, 2025—a day I’ll never forget. What I thought was a simple photoshoot turned out to be the most magical moment of my life. Our parents were there, which seemed odd at first, but I had a feeling something was about to happen. When the photographer asked me to turn around, I did—and there he was, down on one knee. I instantly burst into tears. It felt like time stopped. It felt like a fairytale. What I love most about Darius is the way he sees me. He notices everything—even the little things I don’t say. He knows when I’m upset, when I need a hug, or even just when I’m hungry (which, let’s be honest, is often!). His patience and gentleness make me feel safe, seen, and deeply loved. Our journey has been filled with beautiful memories, quiet moments, and lots of laughter—and now, we’re so excited to start this next chapter together as husband and wife.
I first met Kiara after one of my basketball league games. I had just finished playing and was cooling off outside of Williams Hall. That’s when I saw her. My first thought? “Her little bald head looks very grip-able”… but also, wow — she was beautiful. I didn’t know it yet, but that moment was the start of something life-changing. It didn’t take long for her to become a constant in my life. I realized I was in love when she started caring for me in a way that felt deeper than anything I’d known. At the time, I was going through some health challenges, and the way she looked after me — with patience, grace, and no expectations — showed me the kind of love people pray for. She felt like home. One of my favorite memories with her is our graduation trip to Punta Cana. It was our first real getaway together, and she was nervous (to say the least). Things didn’t go perfectly, but once we relaxed, it became one of those trips we’ll never forget. We laughed, took way too many photos, and most importantly, got closer than ever. What I love most about Kiara is her generosity. She gives without keeping score, and even when I think she’s too nice, I’ve come to realize that’s just who she is — genuine, kind, and always herself. I proposed on February 9th, 2025. Truthfully, I was nervous — not because I didn’t love her, but because we’re still young, and that’s a big decision. I prayed on it, a lot. I talked to my dad, and what he told me stuck: “If I had met your mother at 22, I would have married her.” That meant everything to me, because Kiara reminds me so much of my mom — in all the best ways. So in the end, the choice was simple. Now, I’m most excited for the adventures ahead. I want to travel the world with her, grow, learn, and build a life full of stories — together.
