Nearly half a lifetime ago, we were in high school when we met and best friends since then. We spent years in orbit of each other but never getting too close, we set out and lived lives apart for a short time. When we came back into each other’s lives-it was like the red string of fate that had bound us finally pulled us taught. We realized the truth of our friendship: “it’s us, or nothing”. The proposal of my dreams was so tailored to us, I just wanted a souvenir tee shirt and came back with a ring. We walked the beach at Big Sur, we toured a garden at the resort, a historic bookshop, falconered with birds of prey, hiked the coast and then in our private tent beside the stream in the Redwoods forest there he was on one knee.
