A Mother Knows

Mom knows what's best.

The story of how we met is a unique one, and honestly, it would not have come about without the grace of God bringing us together. Curious about what we mean? Well, here is how we met. One day, Khalil was at work in a hospital. When he walked into a room following his routine, a patient said to him, "Hey, do you have a girlfriend?" Of course, if you've seen Khalil, you can understand that this was a regular occurrence to him, being hit on by the older female patients, this patient in particular is named Desirae, Alexis's mom. He replied, "No, I unfortunately do not." To his surprise, she said, "Well, I have a daughter that I think you'd be perfect for. Would you like her number?" "Let me see a picture, and I'll decide if I'm interested," he replied. Unfortunately, Desirae, her mom did not have any good photos that fully showcased the beauty of her Alexis. Honestly, no picture ever can. Khalil replied, "How about I give you my number to give to her, and if she wants to contact me, she can." Desirae agreed, and by the next day, they were texting. Within two weeks, they went on their first date, on May 30, 23. Two weeks after that, they started dating on June 15, and the rest is history. Since then, they've been blessed to be in each other lives and to be in a position to be God's love to one another, loving each other to heaven. They recognize that such a blessing of this magnitude came from her mom. Unfortunately, in early 2024, in February, they lost her mom, Desirae Hodges, to natural causes. She has been Alexis's hero, being an only mother and a role model who shows how to have love and compassion, as well as give it. Recognizing that loving Alexis would not be possible without her mom, he decided to propose on her birthday, August 12. Thanking her for allowing them to be together and to Love one another. Well, that's that. The story of how we came to be, which was made possible by her mother, who, in this instance, knew what was best for the both of us.
