Block Island, Rhode Island

The Proposal

9/13/2020

It was always in my head and my heart to propose to Caitlin on Block Island. I had a spot picked out for years- even a back up spot ready to go and a last minute emergency knee bending place in case the other two fell thru. I went with none of them. Why you ask? Well I just couldn't wait any longer. That morning, we had managed to make the drive from Lake George to Westerly R.I. airport in record time, and were early for our puddle jumper to the Block. When we checked in for our flight, I scanned the tiny terminal only to find it was just myself, Caitlin and the pilot taking the trip. Without hesitation, I grabbed the bag boy, unbeknownst to Caitlin, offered him to make a quick buck, take my camera, hide somewhere on the runaway, out of sight, and to let our pilot know, I was going to ask the most important question of my life. No not window or isle seat, but for the love of my life's hand in marriage. It was spur of the moment, a real fast one I pulled on myself even. While on the tarmac, going over the pre-flight checklist with Caitlin and I, the pilot understood the assignment. He handed the controls over to me as the say in the sky. I would love to tell you that I had a speech prepared and rehearsed for such an occasion, but if you know me, you know I tend to fly by the seat of my pants (last plane reference, maybe), and I'm 90% sure I blurted something out like, "I don't want to go to Block island single anymore, take this flight with me today and we fly together forever". Something ridiculous like that. I don't really remember. I was nervous folks. It didn't matter because I managed to squeeze out "will you" in there somewhere, and she replied, without hesitation, yes! Whew, cue the bagboy/photographer, a big applause from the pilot, and others starting to gather for their departures. With a big kiss to seal the deal, we boarded our tiny private plane, and the next chapter of our life took off from there..... (last one) !
