Kevin and Ruby met while they were both working at Nanakuli High & Intermediate School. At the time, Kevin was the middle school science teacher and Ruby was the 9th grade counselor. After hearing from numerous students that their favorite teacher ever was a Mr. Bray, Ruby began consulting with Kevin every so often. Over the past few years, Kevin and Ruby went from colleagues to friends to something more.

If you ask Kevin and Ruby for their proposal story, you'll get two slightly different versions. All Ruby remembers is that one minute she and Kevin were talking about her ideal proposal--just the two of them--and the next minute, Kevin was on one knee with a ring in his hand and Ruby saying "yes, yes, yes" and asking "did you talk to my parents?," all before Kevin could even pop the question. Kevin can fill in the details of what happened afterwards. Of how he quoted Proverbs 31: "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value." Of how he described the significance of every aspect of the ring, from the ruby heart to the inscription inside the band. Of all the little and big details of the proposal, what stood out the most to Ruby was that it was just the three of them (Kevin, Ruby, and Pinto) and that he was able to sneak in a meeting with her family the day before to discuss the proposal, all without her knowing.

1 year and 2 months after the proposal, Kevin and Ruby are excited to share their special day with close family and friends. With 4.5 months of long distance and a move under their belt, they can't wait to celebrate the start of this new chapter of their life!
