How We Met

You Don't Like Cheese?!

How does a Manhattan financier meet a Bronx social worker? One word: miracle. Just kidding, BUMBLE. It wasn’t easy. There were obstacles. Our first date was the day before Thanksgiving and Kevin hadn’t packed. Then we both realized Kevin’s name is…Kevin…just like Shauna’s dad… just like her brother. Then Kevin disclosed he hates cheese. But it all worked out. Shauna’s uncle came up with the affectionate name “K3” and K3 clarified he hates cheese EXCEPT mozzarella. We quickly realized we didn’t want to be apart. Kevin gave Shauna a key to his apt a few weeks later and 1.5 years later, we moved in together. We took many great trips, including Florida to see Kevin’s family & friends, Austria to meet his dad & a group of hostile sheep who chased and brought Shauna to tears (leading her to admit the blisters on her feet were b/c her “hiking shoes” were actually DSW rainboots), and Woodstock NY, where our love of upstate NY grew. All this led to an eventful Feb ‘20. We got engaged on Feb 29th at a nearby park (where we like to eat bagels in the sun). Shauna cried when her family surprised her at a restaurant afterward. The next day, the rescue group called to inform us they found a home for Peter, our foster pup. We knew within minutes that we had to adopt him. Then COVID altered the direction of our & everyone’s lives. Shauna has continued working in the Bronx as an essential worker in supportive housing. The only winner has been Peter, who doesn’t have to be home alone as Kevin now works remotely. After many eventful weekends (once we ate two entire brownie batches), we realized we needed to be closer to nature and see stars. We bought our “dream tree house” in Rhinebeck NY, 2 hrs from NYC and we are grateful to have each other and share our first home. Our initial wedding being canceled due to venue COVID-related construction delays was unexpected to say the least but we adjusted. We are now BEYOND excited to reunite with everyone & and share a glorious weekend.
