Our Story

The Mugger of my Heart

Kevin and I both moved to Lafayette, IN in August of 2020 to begin our first jobs out of college. After moving here, I quickly became close with the Harrison family. One Sunday after church, they invited me, Kevin, and a few college students over for lunch. When I went back to my apartment to change, I ended up getting mugged! Suffering only minor bumps and bruises, along with the loss of $6 and my favorite purse, I finally made it to lunch about an hour later. The first time Kevin saw me, I was a complete mess! When I was introduced to the other guests, I was informed that Kevin was a music therapist. Still halfway sobbing, I managed a smile and said “I’m a speech therapist, we’re in related fields!” Kevin awkwardly smiled back and did not say a word to me that day. Or for three months after that. Because, in his words, “What do you say to a girl when all you know about her is that she got mugged?” We finally connected again when we both attended a New Year’s party at the Harrison home. While everyone was in the basement playing games, we spent the majority of the evening upstairs chatting in the kitchen. A few weeks later, we had date at his apartment that was supposed to be a jam session, but Kevin ended up serenading me with love songs all day. We soon became a couple and we both knew pretty quickly that this was it. Our relationship has been so natural and fun right from the start and it just feels like we’ve always known each other. We can’t wait to start our lives together and to celebrate our marriage with family and friends!
