Our Story — How We Met Where do we even begin telling the story of two soulmates who found each other? Let’s start in December of 2024. Both of us had pretty much given up on the whole “finding the right one” thing. We weren’t searching anymore… and that’s exactly when fate stepped in. States apart, we crossed paths on social media and instantly connected like we’d been waiting our entire lives for that moment. We spent countless hours on the phone — like teenagers again — laughing, sharing our pasts, our dreams, and every story that made us who we are. During one of those calls, Melissa was making the long eight-hour drive home from North Carolina after spending the final, heartbreaking days by her dad’s side. We talked the entire way, and somehow during that drive, we became each other’s comfort, each other’s safe place. Melissa didn’t waste any time — she was adamant that we meet the moment she got home. And even though I was nervous (okay… very nervous), I couldn’t wait either. So, we met — right outside a gas station. There she was: oversized shirt, tired eyes, the cutest little smirk, and those beautiful eyes that stopped me in my tracks. My heart wasn’t pounding because I was scared — it was like my body knew something bigger was happening right there in that moment. The very next day, we took a leap. We decided on a random adventure to find water — a place where both of us find peace. We ended up at a dog-park-beach (yes… a beach for dogs), walking and laughing and taking in the view like it was made just for us. And then came our first kiss — fireworks in the night sky kind of magic — a connection we both felt instantly and powerfully. From that day forward, we’ve spent nearly every moment together — spontaneous adventures, late-night talks, family trips, laughter that echoes everywhere we go. And just like we connected, so did our kids: Bubba, Christina, Brooklynn, and Bradley. You’d think they were siblings the way they bonded and cared for one another from day one. Eventually, we found ourselves back in North Carolina — the place Melissa was when we first found each other. And that trip… that’s when I knew. I carried a diamond ring in my pocket the whole time, waiting for the perfect moment. We spent time with family and friends and decided to explore one of the highest mountains in the state. The climb was fun… and maybe terrifying for certain people with short legs (we won’t name names — but you know 😂). When we finally reached the top, the world opened up below us. We were closer to God, together with the people who mattered most. My heart raced just like the first time I saw her — and I knew that was it. With Brooklynn holding the camera, thinking we were just taking a picture, I grabbed Melissa’s hand and dropped to one knee. Tears filled our eyes. I asked her to be my wife. And she said YES. From the day we met to the day we celebrate becoming husband and wife, we’ve never felt more at home. We laugh, we chase each other around like kids, we love wildly, and we live freely — like soulmates who finally found where they belong. It’s crazy how we lived separate lives for so long, miles apart, surrounded by all the chaos and challenges life throws — and still, love led us right to each other. We found our other halves. Our missing piece. The one person in the world we were meant to be with. This is us. This is our story. And it’s only the beginning. ❤️
