Summer 2005 is a summer we will never forget. After being involved in a terrible car accident, I was unable to attend summer school as a nursing student at Winston Salem State University. I spent the summer recovering with two broken wrists. My best friend Lauren would come visit every week. One day she said, "Toya, I'm coming to visit you and Tatah is coming with me". I replied, "okay, but why is he coming?". Lauren then replied, "Girl you know he like you". Long story short, he came over, I went back to college in the fall, and we continued to talk all the time as friends. Eventually, about a year later, we became girlfriend and boyfriend.

Kevin and I had agreed that we would spend Christmas day separately to accommodate both of our families. On Christmas morning I woke up and as usual Kevin was already awake (he's a morning person). I got dressed and went downstairs and started cleaning out my purse at the kitchen island. I noticed a bag and I asked if that gift was for my mom. Kevin answered yes and I turned back around. With my back turned, he then said, this is what I got you. I didn't turn around initially and I simply said "what is it"...he then said "this is what I got you" again. I turned around and he was on one knee!!! I was completely shocked. Those who know me, understand it's extremely hard to surprise me because I have to know everything! It was by far one of the best days of my life and well worth the wait. ❣️
