Coronado is a resort town just across the bay from downtown San Diego. It is famous for the historic Hotel Del Coronado, our favorite hotel in San Diego and where we are getting married. Go for a walk at Orange Ave with its boutique shops and historic homes, and... attend our wedding! Fun facts: the Hotel Del is 137 years old and has hosted Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chapling and multiple presidents. Thomas Edison oversaw the installation of its electric lightining, turning it into the first commercial building lit by electricity (nerd fact Kevin loves).
Our neighborhood. We love it. Grab a coffee at Bird Rock Coffee and go for a walk at La Jolla Blvd. Grab the superfamous pastries at Wayfarer Bakery. Rent an e-bike or golf cart and cruise by the coast, all the way to Windandsea and up to La Jolla Cove.
Visit our seals and go for a walk in downtown La Jolla (Girard Ave). Grab breakfast/brunch at Sugar and Scribe, our favorite breakfast place. We also love grabbing a day drink at La Valencia Hotel. Pro tip: go to Sugar and Scribe before 10:30am, they have wait lines on weekends. Order the bread pudding.
If you're up to some adventure, go kayaking and visit the La Jolla sea caves. Or take a surf lesson ... or just grab a drink at the most breathtaking restaurant in San Diego: Marine Room. Pro tip: order their bread + mushroom dish.
One of our favorite views in San Diego. Go for an easy-moderate 2 mi (3.2 km) hike down to the beach and back up, then grab brunch at the outdoor area of The Lodge at Torrey Pines, overlooking the golf course. Pro tip: park at the golf course and walk to the hiking area.
These are more touristy and/or not part of our weekends, but worth mentioning: Balboa Park, Sunset Cliffs, Pacific Beach Pier, Del Mar.
