The fateful meeting occurred on a balmy Wednesday evening while music played in the background. The setting was the Kemper Center for home gardening, the event was the welcome dinner for the new councilmembers of the Young Friends of the Garden. Jenny had brought her bestie Vona to the engagement to enjoy the open bar and the free-flowing Jazz of the Whitaker Night. As the night wore on, they spotted a dashingly mysterious figure across the bar. This stylish stranger looked as though he was about to leave, and they needed to act fast to catch him before he was gone like a whisper in the night. As the man was leaving Jenny and Vona cornered him and stated “So you’re the engineer!” Kevin, the man in question, was caught off guard. How did two lovely strangers know that he was an engineer? Did this have anything to do with leaving, about to go get magic cards left at a friend’s house? Needless to say once the conversation started it lasted the rest of the night. Magic cards could wait, fortunately Chris was there to drive an extra 90 minutes out of his way to grab them. As the night moved on and the magical evening was ending the now threesome walked to their cars. Discussions were had about continuing the evening at a bar or even the bar Kevin built, but responsibly reigned and a work-night prevailed. Fortunately for the continuation of this story numbers were exchanged and a week later Jenny and Kevin biked to Food Truck Friday. Food Truck Friday was such a success that Jenny invited Kevin to her bat survey at Cuivre River State Park. Now many bat survey and camping trips later the rest is history.
