Franconia Notch State Park is a premier New Hampshire State Park home to some of the other attractions on our list including: Cannon Mountain and the Flume Gorge. Franconia Notch State Park runs for 8 miles along I-93 with spectacular views of the White Mountains on either side of the highway. Most trails and activities are easily accessible right off the highway. Franconia Notch State Park offers something for everyone to include: hiking trails, fishing, swimming, kayaking, an aerial tramway, and the New England skiing Museum. We recommend checking out the Artist Bluff trail with the spectacular fall foliage and stopping at the Old Man of the Mountain viewpoint to see where the site where New Hampshire got its iconic state emblem.
Cannon Mountain is another well known Ski Resort located in Franconia that offers an aerial tramway ride to the peak. The tram offers stunning views of the surrounding Franconia Notch State Park, the Old Man in the Mountain location, and the 5000' Franconia Ridge Mountains.
Flume Gorge is another gorgeous boulder gorge carved out by the Flume Brook that offers hiking trails and a boardwalk that takes you through the gorge. The gorge is located right off I-93 in Franconia Notch State Park.
The Kancamagus Scenic Byway or "the Kanc" is one of the most stunning scenic highways in America. We highly recommend you drive at least some portion of this amazing highway during your visit especially since it offers some of the best views of fall foliage that New England has to offer.
For those who are more adventurous or who want to get the true White Mountains experience we highly recommend visiting Mount Washington, New England's tallest mountain and second tallest mountain east of the Mississippi. There are many ways to explore Mount Washington to include the various hiking trails around the area, driving the Mount Washington Auto Road to the summit house and cafe, or taking the famous Mount Washington Cog Railway to the summit.
Loon Mountain is a well known New England Ski Resort located in Lincoln, New Hampshire. In the off season they offer many different activities including: gondola rides to the peak, ziplines, mountain biking, and hiking trails.
Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves is located in North Woodstock offering hiking trails and a boardwalk to explore the Lost River and surrounding granite boulders and caves. Lost River Gorge showcases some of the area's natural beauty and even offers nighttime lantern tours of the gorge.
Polar caves is a family friendly attraction offering hiking and exploration through nine granite caves. They also have a cafe, gift shop, and petting zoo.
Waterville Valley is a quaint town nestled around the Waterville Valley Ski Resort. During the fall they offer fishing, swimming, kayaking, hiking, disc golf, mountain biking, and a chair lift ride to the peak.
