Kevin chose to propose while on a Deerkoski family vacation to Iceland. After weeks of planning, the day finally arrived. Caitlyn was feeling under the weather, so everyone did their best to keep her spirits up for our long travel day. Kevin and Caitlyn’s family chose the second day of our week-long trip for the proposal, with the breathtaking Skógafoss waterfall as the perfect backdrop. We started the day at a different waterfall, where we got absolutely drenched after walking behind it—already setting the tone for a very Icelandic adventure. Then we made the trek to Skógafoss. Caitlyn had absolutely no idea what was coming. When we arrived, Caitlyn walked ahead of all of us to get a nice picture of the scenery without any bystanders in the background. That’s when Kevin came up behind her and began talking about our life together and his desire to cherish our love for the rest of our lives. Suddenly, he dropped down on one knee and asked the question—one that was quickly met with an enthusiastic “Yes!” Everyone around us erupted into applause and congratulations. It felt like a dream. Family and friends were called to share the news (that everyone somehow already knew was coming!), and it truly became the best day ever. Little did we know, there was still a surprise waiting for us at our next stop. Cassidy, Caitlyn’s sister and maid of honor, had secretly emailed Black Crust Pizzeria—where we were having dinner—letting them know what was happening and asking if they might be able to make any accommodations, even though they typically don’t reserve seating. We were greeted by the kindest staff, a reserved table, and pizzas shaped like hearts. We finished the night off cheering to us, still in disbelief that such a perfect day had unfolded.
