How We Met

9/3/2018

We met through mutual friends, but first we had to go through some losses of our own. Losing a relationship and losing a job isn’t easy (especially when it was the dream place to work). But through that pain and suffering we were destined to meet. Had that door not closed in the way it did, we would not be telling this story. God truly has a grand master plan for our lives. Even when we don’t understand why things happen in the midst of the storms, we know we can trust his plan and that he has something better for us than we could have ever imagined! God's story is better than one we can create for ourselves. Cassie began working with Christine Stack in August of 2018. As soon as Christine had a chance, she was asking Cassie if she was single and if she'd be willing to meet her husband's best friend, Kevin. Kevin and Michael Stack have been best friends since childhood. Neither of us were thrilled about being set up. Kevin had just gotten out of a relationship, and Cassie had just started a new teaching job after the school she had loved and taught at for many years closed. We were both not really ready for a new relationship at the time. But, we both agreed to go to the Stack's Labor Day party. We hit it off, began seeing each other as much as possible, and 6 months later, Kevin proposed! We both love each other so much! We praise God every day for one another, thanking him for the beautiful creation standing before us that we had prayed for so intensely for many years.

The Proposal

3/13/2019

Super Bowl Sunday was a great time to hang out with family and friends. Kevin was invited over to my mom's house to watch the game. That Sunday he told me, “What a score! 3 to 13!” (I didn't understand why he thought that was significant...) Later on he told me that the very next day he went down to look at rings and ended up finding the perfect one! He kept it a secret for many weeks. Even secretly taking my family out to lunch to ask for my hand in marriage. He told me not to make plans on the Wednesday of my Spring Break so that we could dress up and go to brunch together. Just us. (Or so I thought.) We got in the car and headed towards Houston. Along the way he asked if he could pick up a devotional that my pastor had laid out for him at my church. It’s on the way. I thought it was odd that he had to do this right now, but I went along with it. We got to the church and I almost just sat in the car and told him to run in and get it because it had started to sprinkle. He insisted that I needed to come in. We got to the front door and I noticed lights on. I thought it was strange that someone would be here on a Wednesday morning. He opened the door to the sanctuary and a bed of rose petals led all the way down to the stage. A love song was playing over the loud speakers as we walked down the aisle. Along the pews there were signs written out to say, “Cassie, you are beautiful, amazing, the love of my life. Will you marry me?” Emotions were running rampant. We stood on the stage together, he got down on one knee, and asks me if I would marry him and I mutter out a tear filled "YES!" His sister, Shannon, was there capturing the big moment. We ended up still going to brunch down in Houston. We got to the restaurant and many of our family members and friends were there waiting to surprise me! He’s so thoughtful and kindhearted to have thought to bring all of these special people to us together on our engagement day. I love him!
