The Boston College crowd and the classically labeled “Rye Girls” came together through a mutual friend at a bar in the East Village called Phebe’s: a hidden gem. Kevin was sitting at the bar awaiting the arrival of the rest of the group. Minutes later Sophie walks in: her smile filling the room. In this moment, Kevin was immediately drawn and knew he could not pass up the opportunity to get to know her. After their initial greeting and small-talk, the two of them exchanged phone numbers. Kevin and the BC crowd ventured off to a new bar while Sophie and the Rye Girls remained at Phebe’s: neither of them realizing the significance of their connection. Kevin could not get her out of his mind and sent her a text asking her to rejoin the group at their new location. Her response? Nothing. Later into the night, our cupid of the story takes Sophie’s phone and forges his own response, making fun of Kevin’s failed attempt. Kevin perceived this as the end and the night just fell as another ordinary night out in NYC. The next morning Kevin wakes up to a simple “I’m sorry” text from Sophie, which he ignores until two weeks later as he was aimlessly lookin through his messages. Completely forgetting what had occurred, Kevin decides to text once again to get an explanation for the apology. Sophie immediately responds and the relationship commences. Days of texting pass and Kevin takes the initiative to take Sophie out to get drinks at the Park Ave Tavern. The connection was instantaneous and another date was made. From there, the rest is history and all of us here have witnessed the infectious bond both Sophie and Kevin have formed.
Sophie woke early up on a Saturday morning in November and rushed to the supermarket to prepare for "friendsgiving" with her Wake Forest crew as Kevin threw a wrench in the plan by double-booking her with an impromptu brunch with his family at Maialino, at the Gramercy Park Hotel – making Sophie's day quite hectic. When Sophie finally finished cooking pounds of brussel sprouts at 9am, Kevin rushed her out of the apartment to make the "fake" reservation. Upon arriving Kevin ran to the hostess to "check in" and returned to tell Sophie that the reservation was actually in 30 minutes and that we were early. Having barely gotten her coffee, and annoyed at having had to rush out the door with platters of food, Sophie eyed the bar. Maybe a bloody mary would help? Of course, Kevin has other ideas – he says that he "pulled some strings" to get us into Gramercy Park while we waited. Feigning excitement, Sophie agreed to go into the park for a "quick" walk. After walking a short distance (which to Kevin felt like miles), he stopped and explained that they weren't actually going to brunch. Instead, he was going to ask her to marry him. November 23, 2019 is a day that neither of them will ever forget. (don't worry the brussel sprouts were picked up and made it to the friendsgiving)
