Our Story

We'd like to thank Chico State

Kerry's Version

Isaac and I never officially met, but, technically, our first encounter was in 2017 at the Chico State Student Learning Center’s annual tutor training. My first memory of Isaac included his long hair with one single ringlet curl meticulously styled and a black pendant necklace around his neck. This led me to believe he was at best ‘alternative’ and at worst trying to mimic an anime character. Our circles were fairly small as pre-nursing students, yet we managed to never directly interact with one another. Every now and then I would sit at a table that paralleled Isaac’s anatomy sessions at the tutoring center. I remember his booming voice and detailed drawings of bones on the white board. In the spring of 2018, I was finishing up my first semester of nursing school and Isaac had just been accepted. By the fall of 2018, our small circles began to grow even smaller through mutual friends and interests. One day, Isaac DM’ed me a question he could have asked any of his many friends in my cohort…suspicious. By spring 2019, our social encounters increased - we saw each other weekly in between classes, at meetings, parties, and in our DMs, of course. Slowly and subtly, I was getting butterflies before seeing him and a racing heart when I saw a message from him. Halfway through the semester, an opportunity came about - an all day 21st birthday celebration for our mutual friend, Lindsey. I remember eagerly awaiting this day, smiling and scheming as the anticipation grew. When the big day came, Isaac and I sat across each other at breakfast, found ourselves hiking together at Bidwell Park amongst the large group, engaged in a highly competitive drunken thumb war in the back seat of a friend’s car, observed him (obviously) staring as I walked into the room, and enjoyed a piggy back ride from him on our walk from one bar to another. Just one day after the party, I found myself unable to sleep so I went on instagram and noticed a familiar name bolded in my DM’s. He asked me out and the rest is history.

Isaac's Version

I was aware of Kerry before she was aware of me- though she might argue otherwise. I recall seeing her around the Student Service’s Center @ Chico State. Both of us being subject tutors and pursuing our degrees in nursing allowed for common interests. Not only that, we had mutual friends within converging social circles. I was a semester below her, and she was a straight A student- it was no wonder I saw something in such an intimidatingly beautiful woman- whom I thought was out of my league. She was that smart girl out of reach, working hard at her own pace. I wondered if I was able to catch up to maybe spark her interest. The day our cohorts joined one another to partake in group research presentations, Kerry walked out with a sense of quiet, but bold, confidence. I remember her being dressed so formally; I felt so enamored, and knew this girl had something special. Since that moment, I locked-in on winning her confidence too. Luck would have it that we shared close friends, both attended a nursing school bible study, and both appreciated good company. I would continue to join nursing clubs that she was a part of, hoping to interact with her more- Finally, I figured I’d just reach out and message her directly. What’s the harm in asking a few questions about nursing school? We’d continue to see more of each other, exchange conversation, and eventually, our mutual friend Lindsey’s birthday came. What a perfect opportunity to talk about our interests. My goal was to ask her on a date in some way. We hiked behind the main group, talked, laughed, etc- Lindsey came over to save her from me because I’m sure I was ranting about something dumb and it was only a matter of time before I said something silly. The rest of the day I would constantly try to be engaged in literally anything with her, I couldn't get enough of the joy. I was beyond stoked she did more than just tolerate my ridiculous quips and jokes. Kerry was special, and I didn't want to miss out on this opportunity. Well- I eventually got that date- and now she has to smell my farts in the morning. The End :)

For all the days along the way
