We met through mutual friends on a not-so-secret blind date at Dave & Buster’s in San Diego. After our friend Pablo sent Genesis a photo of Kerry, she replied in Spanish, “All that meat, and I’m over here starving”—a line that quickly became part of our story. Genesis arrived late from a Galentine’s dinner just as Kerry was about to head home. The moment he heard she was on her way, he miraculously found his second wind. Fresh off a Mario Kart victory, he turned around, saw her, and was immediately struck by her beauty. He introduced himself, and she replied, “I’m Genesis, like the Bible.” Kerry knew his world was about to change. Before long, we had wandered away from the group and spent the rest of the night talking, laughing, and playing games. We ended up at In-N-Out, talking until two in the morning—neither of us wanting the night to end. And that’s how mutual friends, Mario Kart, and a late-night burger became the beginning of our greatest adventure. 02/02/24
