If you are coming from Missouri or would like something to do in the Kansas City area, Belvoir Winery is about 30 minutes away from KC. We have visited this one and found the history very interesting. You can grab a glass of wine and tour the grounds. This winery is built in the former Odd Fellows Home. It is said to be haunted and the Odd Fellows Cemetery is located on the back of the property. The buildings to the side of the one the inn resides in are not open to the public as they are ruins and not safe to enter. However you can go up to them and look through the windows.
If you are coming from the Nebraska area, Arbor Day Farm has a Harvest Celebration in September. Lots of hiking trails, apple picking, wine tasting, historical park, and many different apple products.
