Paul Smith College, NY, is where everything started. Four weeks before the faithful day, I (Kera), with some encouragement from another friend, spoke to him (Dellyn) for the first time. Scared and not knowing what to say, I asked for a book already within my possession. Having excellent customer service as a student librarian but being incredibly oblivious, he searched the entire library for me. After about 10 minutes, I walked back up to him and informed him that I had already found the book ending his wild goose chase. Not knowing if he would show up, I decided one night to go and have late night. That night was pizza night. With the early evening still being a bit warm in the mid-50s, I decided only to wear a t-shirt… wise decision on my behalf. As late night was ending, I noticed Dellyn and his rugby teammates walking out and heading back to their dorms for the night. This was when I made my move. I approached the group and decided to walk with them at least part of the way when the temperature drop hit me. I made it with the group about halfway to the library before the cold became unbearable and said, “I’M COLD.” Dellyn, the gentleman he is, took off his grey cardigan and gave it to me while two of his teammates just looked at me. The only person to say something to Dellyn just looked at him and said, “She chose to come out here with no jacket. Let her stay without a jacket.” Dellyn did not have any of his nonsense and told him to shut up. As we crossed the campus, the other guys left just Dellyn and me to walk up the dreaded hill to my dorm. Standing outside, I gave Dellyn back his cardigan and thanked him for his kindness towards me. But Dellyn didn’t let go of me just yet. He gently pulled me back for a goodnight kiss as I started to walk away. This was the first kiss, with many more to come. For that Monday, April 1, 2013, would change both of our lives forever.
