Our Story - told by Kenzie

Isn't funny how life changes?

Flashback to freshman year of college. I was at my first date party and my date left me in a room full of people. Thankfully a guy came and sat by me and asked me where I was from and what my name was. We started talking and we soon realized we were both from Houston and had a lot in common. Before Grant left he asked for my number. We talked almost everyday and had many dates to the "Caf". Grant surprised me because of how kind and how intentional he was. He would write letters to me when days were bad and knew pretty soon that Braum's ice cream was the way to my heart. He had the best patience with me when he was helping me with Chem and always encouraged me to do my very best. He was everything and more that I could of ever prayed for. A couple months later as I was yelling and dancing to Mr. Brightside (what a jam), Grant told me he loved me. Well I was pretty sure he did... lol. The next day I was pretty positive that he told me and I knew I loved him. When we started dating we would draw and write sweet memories we had together on the back of extra gum wrappers. I knew this was the way I wanted to tell him I loved him too. Over lunch, I slipped him the gum wrapper with the words "I love you." Throughout college Grant was always my rock. Telling me that I could do big things and always believed in me. We shared the same passion to serve others and see the world. December 2019 Grant and his family took me on a trip of lifetime to Spain, Morocco, and Portugal. On our last night in Spain, Grant took me to the top of the hotel that overlooked the Mediterranean Sea. To my surprise, the cabana at the top was covered with roses. Grant got down on one knee and I said "yes" to forever. We love the song "Life Changes" by Thomas Rhett because it tells how everything happens for a reason. There is no doubt that it was meant to be that Grant sat on that couch 4 years ago. I love you, Grant. I can not wait for a lifetime more of memories to share.

Our Story- told by Grant

November 19, 2016 is the day my life changed, I met Kenzie. We were at a date party, my date had left me (technically second date), and I started to wander around the fraternity house; that’s when I looked through the door of room 206 and saw Kenzie sitting on the couch. I HAD to go talk to her, so I sat down on the couch next to her and we started talking and instantly found things in common. I remember showing her a picture of my boat, while I had my phone out I asked her to put her number in it, from that moment on she was “hooked”. Our relationship began to grow through making memories of us. These memories sometimes came in simple forms like meeting to study or going on late night drives just to have time to talk. We continued to find ways to spend time together like go on hikes at the Wichita Mountains, volunteer every week together, and take a spring break road trip to Nashville and Asheville. Last winter break Kenzie went on a trip to Spain, Morocco, and Portugal with my family and I had a ring burning a hole in my pocket. I asked her to marry me at a cabana on the top of a hotel in Torremolinos, Spain overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, she said “YES”!! I knew I loved her from the start. I love getting her to laugh when she needs it the most. I love how we continue to write letters to each other; I love it when I see one waiting for me as I’m getting ready to head out the door for work. I love the life that we are building together, our new house, our new dog, our new careers, all held together by our everlasting love.
