How We Met

9/5/2018

Jake and Emily actually met on Bumble, a dating app, in 2018. They were both semi-recently single and said "why not" to seeing if anyone was out there for them while in college. Jake was studying at the University of Toledo and Emily was studying at the University of Findlay, about an hour away. They matched on the app and Emily messaged Jake first, as the girl has to message first on that particular dating app. From there, the conversation flowed effortlessly for two weeks. Emily got tired of waiting for Jake to ask her on a date so she asked him to coffee sometime. From there, they had many romantic dates that Emily actually wrote about in a journal. She knew he was special and felt like she was in a movie the whole time with him. One line even stated “I think this could be the start of an incredible love story”. On September 5, 2018 their relationship officially began...

The Proposal

5/13/2021

Jake and Emily had an early start to the day as they were meeting family on Put-in-Bay. Jake told Emily they were stopping at Marblehead Lighthouse first, as his family took pictures there every year but didn’t get to the previous year. Emily totally believed this convincing excuse and thought nothing of it. Jake led her to the rocks by the water and they sat staring at Cedar Point in the distance, admiring the beautiful weather and calm, blue lake while they “waited for his family”. After a couple minutes of talking, Jake finally admitted that his family wasn’t coming there and he began to reach in his pocket and get on his knee in front of Emily. They both laugh now because Emily started crying and says she blacked out and doesn't know what he said to her and Jake was so nervous that he doesn't quite know either. But he did ask the question, “will you marry me” and she replied through tears, “yes, of course”.
