Kent and I met the summer of 2012 in Northern California at a summer camp situated in the redwoods. We were sent by our schools, Ecola Bible College and Corban University, in teams, each set out to serve at different week-long Christian camps throughout the West Coast. A few weeks later, our teams reunited at another camp in Washington! Kent and I remember our first actual conversation during a water competition game between counselors and campers. We reminisce on silly camp traditions like standing on chairs and dancing, and Kent thinking I was "cool." He still thinks I am. We even bought matching camp shirts together because you can't leave camp without something to remember it by, right? Fast forward to January of 2020. I was scrolling through stories on Instagram and came across one of Kent's. He uploaded a video of the sweet Airbnb he and his friends were staying at in Ireland. I sent a quick reaction, which let him know I liked what he shared on his story, and then went on with my day. To our delight, it led to conversation. We learned I live in Oregon, and he in Virginia. We learned we still love God, and, yes, we were both single. Kent and I eventually exchanged numbers, and we had our first phone call the night before the Super Bowl. We talked for four hours! We had a lot to catch up on. Toward the end of February, Kent told me he liked me and he wanted to be clear and intentional. I was thrilled! We made it official beginning of March. COVID made things a little tricky at first, but, after much processing, we took a leap of commitment. Kent visited me for the first time in June. And so the travel began. On trips to see each other, we treasured time together, introduced each other to the people and places we hold dear, and on March 7, the day before our anniversary, Kent proposed to me in Silverton, Oregon. We are grateful God has blessed our journey, our learning, and we pray He continues to.
