Kent and Rebekah at Patrick Henry College, when Rebekah was a student and Kent was visiting for Admitted Students Weekend. He promptly forgot about her and she thought he was insufferable - a perfect match.

As classmates, Kent and Rebekah found themselves in the same group of friends, almost unavoidable at a tiny liberal arts school like PHC. She still found him highly suspicious, though, and he barely noticed she was there (real perceptive, that one). However, a few fortuitous conversations about music, school, and the petty horrors of working at Panera later, and something had definitely changed. By the winter of 2014, heads were tumbling over heels.

Kent wanted to make the proposal a surprise, but Rebekah's razor-sharp powers of deduction made that a tricky goal to achieve. After some planning he finally concocted a scheme which leveraged dear friends (and bridal party members!) Giovanna and Peter to help convince Rebekah that a trip to Harpers Ferry, WV was simply a casual day out of the big city. After everyone else was "running late," Kent and Rebekah decided to "kill time" by walking up to an old church ruin on top of a tall hill where two people (suspiciously resembling two "late" friends) hid with cameras in hand. There Kent got down on one knee and the rest, as they say, is history.
