How It Started

Like most modern romances, it all started online with a dating app. Jen reached out to John first, and soon they had plans for Mini golf. On the night of their first date, Jen had planned to ghost John and just go to bed (she was tired from work). John checked in and made sure they still had plans intact, and Jen reluctantly agreed to meet. John greeted her with a gift—a photo of Red Auerbach and Larry Bird—saying: “I know flowers are customary, but I want you to remember me whether or not this works out.” JEN FELL IN LOVE THEN AND THERE (insert an eye roll from Jen). John took it easy on Jen (insert another eye roll from Jen), and kept the mini-golf score close, but still a decisive victory for him. In between moments of mini-golf dominance, he called his best friend and told him: “I think I just met the one.” They continued on to some BBQ food and beers and finished the night watching the classic Bill Murray film: “What about Bob?” One afternoon, Jen went to John’s apartment and never left. It didn’t feel rushed, it felt easy. They had an easy friendship that went with the romance, and both immediately felt welcomed and loved by the other’s friends and family (they even had one amazing friend in common…Sean Brine!). They continued the adventure with a cross country move to San Diego, California where they explored their shared love of sunshine, Mexican food, and Jiu Jitsu. A few years on the West Coast, and then the best news brought them back to the Commonwealth-a baby was on the way! After the Arrival of Calvin, and a career change, John proposed to Jen and that brings us to now! More adventures to come!

The Proposal

John and Jen made their way to The Normandie’s house in Ogunquit, Maine on Thanksgiving 2022. Jens sister in law, Heather, asked Jen a few days before if she would take family photos of them on the beach. When the time came Jen complained to Heather “I really don’t want to take pictures anymore” Heather replied “Jen don’t be a b*tch” and her brother said “we definitely aren’t taking them after dinner let’s just do it now” FINE. So, the family went to the beach and as Heather was snapping, what Jen thought to be the family photo, John got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She happily said "yes!". We celebrated by popping champagne on the Footbridge Beach!
