Kenneth and Robert met at a mutual friend's birthday party. They both knew the couple, (Roderick and Kevin). Roderick was celebrating part 2 of his birthday. The house party was filled with nice music, delicious food, and great friends. As the evening continued Kenneth noticed Robert sitting on the stairwell having conversation with Kevin. Kenneth was immediately intrigued by the presence of Robert. They eventually started to hold a conversation of their own. The conversation left Kenneth wanting more and so, Kenneth did something that he swore he would never do and that was to never chase after a guy, but it was something special about this guy so he went for it. Fast forward.....A month later, Kenneth and Robert reconnected and started to converse over the phone and occasionally met up for lunch and dinner. They began to have lengthy, deep and exciting conversations about their past, present and future. Strong feelings started to develop and now here they are......happy, in love and ready to start their new chapter and journey together in holy matrimony.

Robert proposed to Kenneth on his 39th birthday, June 10, 2017 at Hamburger Mary's, a restaurant in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood known for its festive female impersonator shows. “This was the best birthday ever!” says Kenneth. “This day was magical and filled with so much love and joy.” Kenneth’s mom Sandra Hall, his brother Bernard and his best friends Mark and Rodrick, and Robert’s friends Steve and Kevin, and his sister Renata all played a part in what led to the big surprise. “I know at some point I called each of them because I was so nervous and wanting to propose at the right time and place,” says Robert. “Kevin and I had just hung out for margaritas before I bought the ring. I called him and returned to the store three times in the same day before making the purchase.” The party was intended to be a small, low key birthday celebration with about 8 friends. However, the list began to grow from the love and adoration of Kenneth’s friends and family who wanted to celebrate his birthday with him. What started as small gathering of friends for a night out ended up with nearly fifty attendees. "I was so surprised and truly shocked by the proposal," says Kenneth. "It was the best gift that Robert could have given me." Once the list had grown, Robert knew It was a now or never moment and coordinated the proposal with the restaurant staff and performers.
