Elizabeth and I originally met on a Popular Online Free dating site (get it?). Our first face to face date was at a small restaurant, she in her non-matching shoes (and socks) and me with a bandaid on the back of my freshly shaved head. Although the date went very well, I knew I would be seeing this strange lady again when I saw her drive away in a yellow submarine car - complete with periscope. So, she was a part of the notorious Houston artcar gang. This intrigued me enough to tag along to many of these odd events and mingle with her (even stranger) friends. But it wasn’t long before I was calling these people my friends as well, and the rest, as they say, is history. We do it all together now, and I haven’t looked back!
I had the ring - she had no idea. After competing in a costume contest, I had Elizabeth called back to the stage under the pretense of a “redo” of her costume runway walk. When the MC said, “I think someone has something to ask you”, she turned and there I was, on stage with her, on one knee, in front of 500 of our closest friends and fellow freaks. Very awkward indeed, but she didn’t hesitate to say yes, so here we are.
As we understand it, this has not been done in a great many years. On April 13th, 2019 Elizabeth and I will be wed in the parade, on a boat, in beach attire - by Santa Claus! Our family will be on the boat with us as well and I know my neices and nephews will get a huge kick out of it. I only hope the adults do too, especially considering we will all be covered in silly string by the end of the parade. Different? Yes. Strange? Oh yes. Perfect for us? Most definitely! We are quite certain nobody will forget our wedding for a very long time to come.
