Question

How should I get to and from the wedding?

Answer

Uber is the recommended transportation to and from the wedding venue or events.

Question

Transportation Around Mexico City

Answer

Uber is the best form of transportation from the airport and throughout the city. Don’t recommend taxis as much. You can Uber pretty much anywhere and it’s inexpensive. Prices will show up in pesos, so don’t be alarmed when it looks like it’s $150, it’s $8. Oftentimes the drivers will ask you if it’s okay if they don’t follow the Uber map -- they often use Waze instead to navigate the traffic. You can rent bikes using Eco-bici. You must register online and you’ll need an official ID (for foreigners that means passport) and a Visa or Mastercard. Once they confirm you have registered and paid, you will get a user number and pin to enter each time you take a bike from one of the stations. Make sure when you return the bike and place it into the holder, the machine says “bicicleta devuelta correctamente” meaning it is attached correctly and you won’t be charged additional time. The limit for rides is 45 minutes and it’s about two dollars every additional hour that you have your bike out past that amount;,you may also have a day pass option. The neighborhoods we recommended are very walkable as well! Part of the fun can be exploring the city on foot. If you’re feeling up for the challenge of traffic, you could also rent a car but we haven’t done this in the city before and don’t have much advice. Our wedding planner may be able to offer advice. Keep in mind parking can be sparse & another expense, and the wedding venue does not have onsite parking. There is also a metro but you may have to have a metro card or a Mexican bank card to get on. Not sure on the logistics but if you want to figure that out in advance, it is safe and a good way to get around as long as you take it into the neighborhoods we recommended.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

September is Mexico City’s rainy season, so come prepared with layers. However the weather should be mostly sunny and warm - with daily high temperatures around 73°F - 78°F, and *potential* low temperatures around 55°F. Mexico City has a higher elevation (7, 349’) than Denver, CO where we live.

Question

Currency

Answer

Mexican peso! ATMs are accessible, however you typically have a limited amount you can withdraw per day. Credit cards are accepted most everywhere as well! The best way to avoid foreign transaction fees on your CC is to use or acquire a no-foreign-transaction-fees credit card. Next in line are checking accounts or debit cards with no foreign transaction fee. It is also possible to avoid fees by paying in the local currency for purchases. Tips go from 10 to 20 percent.

Question

Water

Answer

Drink bottled or filtered water only. Ice used to prepare drinks is filtered.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

Mexico City enjoys a consistent, sunny temperature most of the year. Rain is common but typically quick; pack a light, waterproof jacket, but skip the umbrella. If you get caught in the rain, street vendors sell umbrellas. Bring comfortable shoes since you might do lots of walking as you explore the city. Restaurants range from street vendors, casual, chains, family atmosphere, cafes, global cuisine, to high-end dressier chic. CDMX loves color and fashion, but anything goes! You’ll find a decent amount of English speakers, but download the Google Translate app on your mobile before traveling to help understand some Spanish. Also don’t forget your passport & SPF, we won’t be close to a beach but we will be closer to the sun at elevation.

Question

Some restaurants and museums should be booked well in advance.

Answer

The food scene in CDMX is vibrant and includes some of the best restaurants in North America & the globe. You may need to make dining reservations depending on the restaurant, especially for larger parties. However, there are also plenty of restaurants you can easily walk into or grab takeout from. Some of the best art museums reside here too. September is a busier month for travel to CDMX, so if you’re interested in a museum check ticketing availability and schedules ahead of time. Many museums require you to reserve tickets ahead of time online. Food Delivery: The Uber Eats of Mexico City is called Rappi. If you have a day where you need to order food in, we'd recommend it. It’s much less expensive and there’s a lot of good spots on there.
