There is no color-coded dress code, but for the ceremony, please dress modestly as it will be taking place in a Catholic church. Feel free to dress more comfortably for the reception afterwards!
We're going to have a selection of tacos and Japanese food, with some aguas frescas and sodas to drink. We will not be having alcohol at the reception, and we appreciate your understanding regarding that! You can find a more specific menu of options on the Schedule page of this website.
We are not expecting anyone to bring any gifts to the reception. We would prefer cash funds to put towards things like our honeymoon or first home. We will have a funds box at the reception for physical cash, or if you head to the Registry page on this website there are ways to contribute digitally. Thank you so much!
You can find detailed information on the day-of schedule on the Schedule page of the website, as well as detailed information about the reception.
We both met while working at Pizza Hut! One night Kenji asked Melissa to a late night trip to the beach after work to talk about life. He felt the universe pushing him to tell her how he felt, and that's where we started ♥
Kenji thinks that their first date was a trip to the movies that they took, and dinner afterwards. Melissa thinks that their first date was a picnic dinner at the duck pond in Temecula where they ate chocolate covered fruits and watched the sunset.
Kenji said I love you first, but he insists that he could see her saying it to him in her eyes before she ever said it back.
For both of us, it's the time that we went to The Lights lantern festival together. It was a fun, beautiful, magical day. That's a good segue into the next question...
Kenji very secretly planned a special trip out into the desert to go to a lantern festival called The Lights. In the months leading up to the day, he realized that he wanted to spend the rest of his life on an adventure with Melissa, so he chose a ring for her with plans to pop the question at The Lights. The day of, Melissa spent the whole drive trying to figure out where they were headed, and her leading theory was a monster truck rally. About 75% of the way there, her little brother who had her location called asking if they were going to The Lights... so that secret was blown. When they got there it was hot, the walk to the festival grounds was brutal - but the food was delicious, the music was really good, and it was their first big day together as a couple at something like a music festival and it felt so special. As the night went on, they created their lanterns and watched all of the torches being lit around the festival grounds. It felt like magic as it got darker and it looked like a sea of foxfires floating in the darkness. The festival neared its end and the event arrived at the climax of everything - letting a sea of lanterns float into the sky. They stood next to their torch ready to let their lanterns fly, and Kenji's floated off with his wishes written on them. When they attempted to light and send Melissa's off, there was a bit of error and it got kind of crispy. They stood and watched the lanterns for a little bit. He then took her hands in his and told her how happy she had made him since they met, and how he knew that she was the woman that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He got down on one knee, and asked if she would marry him. She looked shocked and kept asking "Actually?!" over and over, before eventually saying yes, and they shared a kiss under a magical sea of floating lanterns. She told him on the drive home that she had found the ring in his desk a few days prior to the trip. :)
