Everything Before "I Do"

Jean-Louis and Kendall met in a way that felt nothing short of extraordinary. On the night of September 27, 2015, at a party at Texas State, Kendall stepped outside alone. At that very moment, Jean-Louis happened to be walking by. Something, perhaps intuition, perhaps something greater, pulled him toward her. Under the soft glow of a floodlight in a quiet parking lot, they struck up a conversation that would last for hours. From that moment on, they were inseparable. What began as a deeply rooted friendship quickly grew into something deeper. Just a few months later, on January 20, 2016, Jean-Louis took Kendall to dinner at the Root Cellar in San Marcos. That night, he asked her to be his girlfriend. Their love has always been grounded in friendship, mutual admiration, and a natural ease between them. Through the highs and lows of college life and the excitement of early adulthood, they stood side by side, growing together in every way. In 2019, life called them to different places. Jean-Louis moved to Kansas City to begin his winemaking journey at TerraVox, working with lost native North American grape varieties. Kendall remained in Austin, teaching third grade and building a life of her own. During this three-year season of long distance, they chose to see the space as a chance to grow, both individually and together. Kendall often visited Kansas City, and while Jean-Louis worked at the vineyard during the day, she found refuge in long walks to the Nelson-Atkins Museum, afternoons spent in the Kansas City Public Library, and peaceful moments in Loose Park. These places became touchstones, quiet anchors in a city that began to feel like a second home. Countless flights, road trips, and tearful airport goodbyes eventually gave way to a joyful reunion when Kendall moved to Kansas City to build the next chapter of her life with Jean-Louis. As they settled into their new rhythm, the city that once held fleeting weekends began to hold everyday memories. And one place in particular, the Nelson-Atkins Museum, held something even greater. On July 22, 2023, Jean-Louis proposed on the museum lawn. It was quiet and meaningful, and Kendall, overwhelmed with joy, cried the kind of tears that only come when you know in your heart you are exactly where you're meant to be. Their story is one shaped by faith, friendship, time, and an unwavering belief in each other. With years of shared memories and a love that has only grown stronger through distance, change, and deep connection, Jean-Louis and Kendall are overjoyed to begin this next chapter. They cannot wait to celebrate with the people who have helped shape their journey and surround them with love on their wedding day.
