Things To Do

If you're coming in from out of town - thank you! Here are some fun things to check out if you have extra time in Albany.

Honest Weight Food Co-op

100 Watervliet Avenue, Albany, NY 12206

Makes a trip to the grocery store a genuinely fun experience. Home to lots of quirky vegetables, cute knickknacks, and apparently the biggest bulk section in the northeast!

Troy Waterfront Farmers Market (Summer)

49 4th Street, Troy, NY 12180

Open 9-2 on Saturdays. Tons of local vendors, one of the best things to do in the region!

Dove & Hudson

296 Hudson Avenue, Albany, NY 12210

We have a ritual of checking out as many locally owned bookstores as possible whenever we're visiting another city (and yes, empty bookshelf space in our apartment is scarce). This is our favorite bookstore close to home, featuring a mix of new and used books! After you stop here, you can walk up a block to check out the other small businesses on Lark Street (Albany's downtown), and another block to visit Washington Park.

Albany Pine Bush Preserve

195 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205

A preserve featuring a globally rare pine barrens ecosystem - a great place to get outside in Albany! Our other favorite local hikes are at the Five Rivers Environmental Center and Thatcher Park, both a bit of a drive.

New York State Museum

222 Madison Avenue, Albany, NY 12230

A free museum with a good overview of NY state history!
