The Big Day

June 26, 2021

Due to covid and the unknown of what weddings in 2021 would look like, we had to make a difficult decision. Our wedding will take place on June 26, 2021 with guests being limited to our immediate families only. We're hoping to be able to celebrate with our extended family and friends throughout this year and the rest of our lives!

How We Met

Like many great love stories, ours started with a bit of motherly advice & a lot of luck. Both Kyle & Kendal had been solo groomsman/bridesmaid in too many weddings to count over the previous few years. With friends scattered around the country, each had attended their fair share of weddings seated at the singles' table. That’s where the motherly advice comes in. Before each wedding (did we mention there were *many* weddings?), Wendy (Kyle’s Mother) would impart the same advice. She'd say, “Why don’t you try to meet a pretty girl at one of these weddings? You’ve got to put yourself out there - just whatever you do don’t drink too much & especially don’t dance, you don’t want to blow your opportunity before she gets to know you.” Even with all of the opportunities to heed his mother's advice, it took a wedding across the country for it come to fruition. With both being blessed with so many close friends from college, it was fitting that they were set up by a PSU & ASU grad. Kyle & Andrea St. James had thought of playing match-maker for a long time prior to their wedding. They thought Kyle & Kendal had a lot in common, especially when it comes to how they both value family over everything - both being based out of NYC was an added bonus. Despite Kyle's poor dance moves at the wedding, Kendal agreed to a first date a few weeks later when she returned to NYC from California. Even after Kyle broke the news to her that he was not in fact a hand model like he had told her in CA, it was clear that they had much in common. Although Kendal was quick to call it a night after two drinks, it was obvious to both that they wanted to get to know more about each other. That same night, they made plans to see each other again a few days later.

Our Story

What followed was a whirlwind tour as their lives became more & more entwined. Early on, both Kyle & Kendal introduced their new significant other to their respective friends group. Every time, the friends marveled at how comfortable Kyle & Kendal were together from the start. The first real test was when Kendal ran the 2018 NYC Marathon which she ran to celebrate her mother's (Cheryl) 60th birthday as well as raise money for Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery & Research Foundation in honor of her late father (Joe). Although Kendal had trained to run 26.2 miles, it was Kyle who was under pressure. With the help of Kendal's cousin Jordan & her now husband Alex, Kyle & Cheryl conquered the NYC subway in order to follow Kendal as she raced through the five boroughs. Kendal knew if he could survive a day navigating the subway and playing tour guide, he had won over Cheryl's heart and had her approval. A few weeks later, Kendal was the one feeling the pressure when she accompanied Kyle to Connecticut to meet his sister Amanda, her husband Mike, & their two children Abby & Ryan. As always, Kendal fit in seamlessly & was quickly everyone's favorite - Kyle was an afterthought. Abby even burst into tears as the Metro North pulled away, she was so sad Kendal was leaving - that had never happened when Kyle use to visit solo! Over the past few years, Kyle & Kendal's relationship has only continued to evolve & strengthen. Their love for friends, family, traveling and fitness have allowed them to create many amazing lasting memories, which they look forward to continue building on. While 2020 was a challenging year for many people, one small blessing was Kyle & Kendal were able to spend more time together. Whereas before they split time between NYC & Penn Yan, Kendal was able to move to Penn Yan full time while working remotely. Through the ups and downs of the past year, Kyle & Kendal were fortunate to face them together.

The Proposal

What started at a wedding in California culminated in Kyle proposing at The Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine on October 7, 2020. As was the case when he first met Kendal at that fateful wedding in California, Kyle was not very eloquent but Kendal still said yes despite the bumbling proposal. They've continued to fall more & more in love & look forward to making it official on June 26, 2021.
