There’s a simple beauty to meeting your partner later in life. Age might take its toll on your looks, but it increases your sense of self and your strength and determination to seek out a true partnership. You know what you want and what you don’t want. You are open to loving someone and finding love. Lisa and Ken found each other over 13 years ago. They met on eharmony, a dating site famous for its complex and accurate ability to match people by making them go through mountains of questions, paperwork, essays, phone calls, and finally giving them the ability to go on a first date. In addition to the chemistry that they had together, Lisa was drawn to Ken’s goodness, kindness, and honesty, his love of politics, history, and yes, sports. Lisa would come to regret Ken’s love of sports as the years passed; football season is torture but Ken’s tv headphones provide her with peace and quiet on Sunday afternoons. For Ken, he remembers how hard it was to meet loving and kind people. When he went on eharmony, he remembers being drawn to Lisa’s smile. When he drove home after their first date, he thought to himself that she could be the one. As they began dating, Ken recalls meeting Lisa’s friend, Daphne. She rushed over to him and told Ken that she wanted to meet the man who captured Lisa’s heart. Ken thought that was funny because he had said the same thing to his best friend, Tom. In the fall of 2009, Ken and Lisa moved in together; that winter they brought home their dog, Sadie. Adorable Sadie knows hundreds of words and can, at times, actually have a conversation with you. For most of their relationship, Sadie has been an important part of their lives. Do Lisa and Ken fight? Sure, sometimes. And almost always about stupid things: the Henry Hudson vs. the FDR, Yankees vs. Mets, city life vs. suburban life, old tech vs. new tech. They never fight about the important things: politics (liberal), religion (opiate of the masses), dogs (the best). Lisa and Ken love each other unconditionally and this gives them the freedom to be happy and to encourage each other to grow and contend with whatever life brings. Who knows why it took so long to get married? Who cares? When Ken proposed to Lisa, he grew emotional and told her that he never thought this would happen for him. It was a touching, revealing moment. So, even though it took a while, Lisa and Ken found each other and have worked hard to create a lasting, loving partnership. And now, on August 21st, Lisa and Ken want to share their wedding with their closest friends and family. They want it to be an evening that everyone will always remember, a celebration full of love and happiness, in the city they love, with the people they care about most in the world.
