The Story of Us

McKennah's Perspective

Canyon and I have been friends for as long as I can remember. I’ve always referred to him as my best friend, but I mean who wouldn't? He's Canyon! He's also the only guy I’ve been totally comfortable being my complete and crazy self with. We totally had a "thing" the summer after my 8th grade year. I remember the first time we held hands; it was the first time I had ever held hands with a boy. We were watching the first Lego movie in the theater with my family. I slowly scooched my hand in closer to his, hoping he’d grab it. Spoiler: he did… Thank goodness! Except then a couple weeks later, even though we weren't "technically dating" I maybe... no totally... "broke up" with him over text (eeeekk I know- THE WORST)! Flash forward past a couple years of awkwardness, we started hanging out as friends again. I remember sending him a couple letters while he was in boot camp and getting to be there when he graduated. After that, we hung out a couple times and our friendship was finally back to normal again. I remember having one of the best conversations ever at Cuppa Austin (now our favorite coffee spot) for hours before he left Austin for MCT, and I went back to CO. We FaceTimed every once in a while, and then started FaceTiming more often around Feb/March of 2019. Talking turned into joke flirting, and then joke flirting turned into real flirting. I totally blurted out over text once that I thought he liked me and that I thought maybe one day it could turn into something, but I just didn't see it happening anytime soon. I do remember praying for it to work out. I never would’ve admitted it, but I secretly did. On his 20th birthday, I sarcastically told him I’d let him take me out on a date. Then for some reason, all of a sudden, I wasn’t being sarcastic anymore. I flew out to CA the next month and we made it official. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t in love with him from the beginning. He’s the guy version of me. He's my first and my last love. He's my best friend!!

The Story of Us

Canyon's Perspective

I met Kennah many moons ago through our church. I have no recollection of how it originally went down but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with our parents becoming friends first. Since then, we became super close friends, and our parents always joked with each other about how we needed to get married. She was a dancer, so throughout middle and high school my family and I went to countless dance recitals to cheer her on, and I always had a blast. To Kennah, EVERYTHING is a competition, and she really likes to win. So she always looked for ways to compete with me, and me, also being competitive, always loved the challenge. Not gonna lie she was always a tough opponent, and she definitely beat me in plenty of little contests. I think one of our most iconic ones we did was a wall sitting competition when I was in the 8th or 9th grade. We stayed there for a GOOD while, neither one of us wanted to lose, and I think we ended up calling it a draw. Anyways, we’ve been best friends forever, and we definitely tried “dating” (I technically wasn’t allowed to even date yet, so I guess we were just “talking” exclusively) back in the summer of 2014. I was 15 and she was 14, and It was GREAT. But then she “broke up” with me over text. Brokenhearted, I did what needed to be done: listen to Passenger’s “let her go” over and over again. Anyways we moved passed that eventually and remained best friends. Fast forward a few years and I'm a marine in California and we start talking every day. That talking eventually led to subtle flirting, then obvious (cringey) flirting, and then finally deciding that we will try the whole dating thing out. So on April 19th 2019 she flew up to California, and we went on our first date. From then on, I couldn’t ask for someone better to spend my life with, and that brings us to now, just two best friends falling in love and getting married!

For all the days along the way
