How We Met

7/17/16

My "Golden" Birthday was a Sunday and happened to be "Elder Spencer's" first Sunday as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The first area he served in while he was assigned to serve in Kansas for two years was my hometown, Scott City. I (almost) immediately had a (secret) crush on him and was heartbroken when he was assigned to another area three months later. When I moved to Utah one year later, we started writing each other for the final year of his mission. Five days after he came home, I flew out to see him again after 21 months and to meet his family for the first time. I think we were all pretty nervous! We know God has such a beautiful plan for our lives. Looking back at every step and decision in our individual path, we both see his hand in crossing our pathways and changing our lives forever. We don't believe in coincidences and are so excited to continue to rely on the Lord's guiding hand as we are united as one.

The Proposal

10/13/18

Our proposal day seemed to begin as the worst day ever for both Kemp and I. I was having major car troubles, had to jump start my car in the pouring rain, and push it up a hill when it died again on the side of the road. Meanwhile, Kemp was trying to make it to Dallas to propose. Kemp and I didn't talk as much as we usually would on that day. Obviously, he needed to dodge my frequent video calls so I wouldn't know he was at the airport. He continued to make silly excuses like playing racquetball, or that he stayed up way too late and just needed to sleep. He successfully convinced me that he was busy and that he would call when he could. The airport was a nightmare in itself, and after five hours of delay, he was able to safely fly to Dallas. I was upstairs working on a project when I finally got a text from Kemp asking me if I received the package he sent. I was so confused because the mail had already come that day. Regardless, I went downstairs to check it out. I saw my mom, who was just magically in Dallas this particular weekend, recording me on her phone. That was the single moment I thought Kemp was there, but as soon as I checked the doorstep, I figured my mom was just taking a video of me receiving flowers from Kemp. As I turned around, to my surprise, Kemp was standing there and got down on one knee. I didn't think Kemp was capable of surprising me as well as he did. It was such a special moment for us as a couple. We are so excited to spend the rest of our lives together.
