Question

So this is a multi-day thing?

Answer

Correct! The traditional Nigerian ceremony is Thursday, December 8th and the western ceremony is Saturday, December 10th. Note that they're in different locations and both taking place indoors (more info in the Schedule tab). We'd love to see you at both, but totally understand if you can only make one or the other.

Question

What's a Nigerian Engagement Ceremony?

Answer

The traditional Nigerian engagement, or trad as it's commonly called, is a cultural ceremony where the groom publicly states his intention to marry the bride, and the bride's family publicly accepts. The families are represented by one or two Alagas, who cheekily facilitate the ceremony. The groom's family also presents a dowry to the bride's family, called Eru Iyawo. The bride & groom wear a traditional fabric called Aso-Oke and friends of the family wear a designated, color-coordinated fabric called Aso-Ebi. Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

The dress code for the wedding events is cocktail attire, and casual wear for the welcome drinks and farewell brunch. Wear what makes you feel like your best self!

Question

Can I bring a guest?

Answer

Please see your RSVP instructions for your unique guest count.

Question

Can I bring children?

Answer

Although we love your little ones (so much!), please note this is an adult only affair. Thank you for understanding.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

December in Houston can be unpredictable! According to the internet, it can range between 43-63F, but most of our events will be indoors. We'll update this as we get closer to the date.

Question

Will parking be available?

Answer

Yes, for free at both venues! We are not providing any formal transportation for the weekend. There is ample parking for those who feel comfortable driving, and Uber/Lyft is a great option for those who don’t. Please keep yourself and others safe by defaulting to a ride service or carpooling with a designated driver if you plan to drink.

Question

What type of food and drink will be served?

Answer

We will be serving primarily Halal Nigerian food on Thursday and Saturday. We plan to make arrangements for our vegetarian and pescatarian guests, but please let us know through your RSVP if you have any food restrictions.

Question

What if I have allergies or dietary restrictions?

Answer

Please let us know when you RSVP! The food will be halal and there will be a vegetarian and pescatarian options.

Question

Are there any COVID precautions?

Answer

For the safety of our older and immunocompromised guests, we are asking everyone to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. Ideally, we'd also appreciate it if you took a rapid test at most 48 hours prior to each wedding event you plan to attend.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We have some hotel blocks near the Saturday venue in Montgomery (see the Travel tab). But note that the events on Thursday and Saturday are about an hour's drive in between (Houston is huge).

Question

How is Yuma so cute?

Answer

Impossible to know. Better to simply bask in our ignorance and rub her tummy.
