How We Met

From Robert Hall to the Altar

Kelsye and Eion met through a love for music. While Kelsye attended the Illustrious Spelman College, she was a member of the Atlanta University Center Symphony Orchestra. Eion was a member of the Morehouse College Glee Club while attending the prestigious institution. After their paths crossed and a little plotting from the Best Man and Eion’s fraternity brothers, Kelsye and Eion began their budding relationship. They kept their relationship strong for the next five years, even while being miles apart. Eventually, they decided to take a leap of faith and move to Kansas City together, where their relationship only grew stronger. Two years later, Eion decided he was ready to propose!

The Proposal

7.8.23

Eion created a very elaborate plan for the proposal. He convinced Kelsye to travel with him to Atlanta for one of his favorite events, a NASCAR race. He cleverly presented the idea as a way to get back to Atlanta to see friends and take time to relax. With the help of Kelsye’s best friends and Eion’s oldest niece, he created the perfect diversion from the true intent of the trip. Eion’s job even set him up on an official work trip in Atlanta that same weekend to further divert Kelsye’s suspicions. On the day of the proposal, Eion put his plans into action. Kelsye went to get pampered and spend time with her best friends while Eion met with his proposal crew to practice one final time. At the end of the day, Kelsye and Eion went to a lovely dinner where, much to Kelsye’s dismay, Eion did not propose. As they drove home, Eion suggested stopping at Centennial Park, the scene of their first date, to brighten Kelsye’s mood when, of course, in typical Atlanta fashion, it began pouring rain. Eion kept the spirits up and eventually got Kelsye to take a short walk in the park. To her surprise, she saw all her friends gathered under a pavilion, trying to stay dry and ensure Eion’s plan was executed flawlessly. A master sextuplet, who also happened to be their good friends, accompanied Eion in singing his rendition of, In the Still of the Night, a song he grew to love while listening to the Morehouse College Quartet. While singing, he shared a moving speech and got down on one knee to propose. Kelsye said yes with the biggest smile, and the rest is history! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Kansas City!
