I remember being extremely shy around Clint in high school. He was a multi sport athlete, captain of the football team, and prom king. While I was just a sophomore at Saline High school. We would see each other at school or at grad parties and I would be too afraid to talk to him. My friends did most of the talking. All the while I was what Clint was really interested in. The most interaction we had in High school was becoming Facebook friends. Years went by as we both went our separate ways. I went to Youngstown to play Division 1 volleyball and He went to Western Michigan to...well...you know get an education (PARTY). Clint graduated college and eventually got a job in the freight industry that forced him to relocate to Cleveland. He didn't like it much there so when a job opportunity came about to move back to Michigan, Clint was all for it. After he accepted his new position with Dayton Freight, I happened to see a post on Facebook saying Clint was moving back into the Saline area. I was intrigued by him and remembered him being really "cute" in high school. So, as any attracted girl would do I clicked on his Facebook page. As I scrolled through the pictures, I thought to myself "he still is cute". As a (not so) subtle hint that I was interested in him, I pressed the "like" button on a few old pictures. I'm talking many years old. Clint clearly got the "subtle" hint and sent me a message asking me out to lunch. I was working as a patient care tech at the time and my shift was the evening shift. I agreed to lunch, but I arrived wearing my scrubs because I had to go to work after our "date". I figured if he didn't judge me on our first date wearing those awful hunter green scrubs, then he was worth it. To this day I could not imagine my life without him. He keeps me sane when I am stressed out, and makes me laugh when I need it. If we could make it through my PA school journey together, then we can make it through anything!!
It seemed like an ordinary cold December day, but she had no idea what was coming. I knew Kelsi was the girl I was going to marry, and after "the talk" with Craig I received his blessing. As we started to get ready to go, my nerves set in. First, forgot my water bottle on top of my car and THEN forgot to park the car as I hopped out to get it with Kelsi (and the car) rolling away. Smooth. My original plan was to propose to Kelsi in downtown Brighton, where we had just moved to. Downtown Brighton has a beautiful "boardwalk" with wooden bridges overlooking the pond in the middle of downtown. I figured this would be romantic and perfect before going to dinner at our favorite spot, The Brighton Bar and Grille. Well, my plans were ruined by a "hangry" future wife and a loud bridal party storming across the bridge. I remember Kelsi saying "can we go eat now?" as I was trying to ask her. At dinner, I was sure she knew because she asked me why I was acting "weird". My cover up was that I didn't know what to order for dinner. She bought it, thankfully. Plan B was the second part of the date, the Light Show at the Detroit Zoo. The zoo was one of our first dates, so plan B was not so bad. As we walked closely in the cold, I was sure she felt the ring box at one point. Nerves were at an all time high now. Finally she said "lets get a picture together because I actually did my hair tonight". Score! As we sat on a bench across from the fountain where we took our first picture as a couple, I was picky at choosing a "photographer" so we could capture the moment. Finally a younger couple asked us to take their picture in return to take ours. Instead of posing for the picture, I got down on one knee and asked Kelsi to be my wife. Everyone walking by was cheering and Kelsi started crying. After she said Yes, we kissed and celebrated the rest of the night with her sister Jori and her now fiance Chris. This day I will never forget, and I still feel like the luckiest man in the world.
