Kelsey and I were introduced as teenagers, mostly by accident. An old friend of mine tried to get me out of a dinner party by pretending I had taken her out on a date. In reality, we had never even met, so when word of this fictional date got around to Kelsey you can imagine her confusion (if it sounds like high school drama, it was). I found myself catching her in the hallways of our high school and carrying her books to class as I tried to explain this “rumor”. It wasn’t until I could find an excuse to turn that false rumor into a real date that we actually started seeing each other. Luckily for me, Kelsey mentioned needing help to learn a song on guitar for a talent show her friends would soon be auditioning for. I doubt that my 3 months of guitar lessons qualified me to be that person, but I wasn’t going to tell her that, and if she caught on she never stopped me. So I found my excuse and came over to “teach” her a three chord beginner song; not sure how effective I was, but when the show came around she performed it better than I ever could have. As it turned out, our mutual interests extended far beyond beginner-level guitar. Over the next few months we saw many movies, listened to countless songs, and spent about as many hours as we could together (considering we both still had a curfew). Since then we haven’t stopped, and now I know that we never will. So funny enough, that silly high school rumor has turned into my entire life, and I think that the “accident” may not have been an accident after all. And for that, I couldn’t be happier. -William
William rose above and beyond any proposal I could have imagined. To celebrate my sister and I's graduations, my parents had taken us to Europe. Towards the end of our trip, William met my family in the fabulous city of Barcelona, and we spent his first day sight-seeing. By the late afternoon, all of us were exhausted and went back to our hotel to recoup. My father had a reservation for a nice dinner, but in Spanish fashion the reservation was rather late. I was way too excited about being in one of the world's most interesting cities with the world's best man to sit a hotel room until dinner! So when William just happened to suggest me and him MAYBE grabbing a drink before dinner of course I hopped right on that idea. He hailed a cab for a place that he claimed a friend had mentioned, and I remember noticing that his whole demeanor was radiating excitement. I wrongly assumed it was because his trip had just begun. We arrived at the most elegant hotel, El Palace Hotel Barcelona, and hotel staff kindly informed us that there was a lovely bar on the rooftop with a fantastic view of the city. There were flowers growing along the trellis lining the stairs up, the sun was setting as we walked out, and somehow the only other person there was a classy bartender holding gorgeous, gold-flecked cocktails. It completely took my breath away. I turned back at William to express my disbelief, and as you might have guessed by now (though I certainly didn't), he was down on one knee. The following moments on that rooftop were of course the happiest in our lives, and though it was very hard to eventually leave, I couldn't wait to share our happiness with my family at dinner. Little did I know, William's entire family had flown to Spain as well and were also waiting to share our happiness at the best dinner of my life. William and I can't wait for us all to become one big family this November to continue sharing life's biggest moments with. -Kelsey
