Battery Park stretches along the lower shores of the Charleston peninsula, bordered by the Ashley and Cooper Rivers, which meet here to form Charleston harbor. Across the street from the waterfront promenade is Rainbow Row.
One of Charleston's most iconic points of interest, Rainbow Row comprises more than a dozen brightly painted historic homes perched along The Battery's East Bay Street, near Waterfront Park.
The Pineapple Fountain is a focal point of the Charleston Waterfront Park, which people have been enjoying since it opened in 1990 – the spring after Hurricane Hugo. Pineapple motifs are common in Charleston and represent hospitality.
Sullivan's is the closest beach from Downtown and our favorite. It's an easy 15min drive/Uber away and less commercialized than the other beaches. The center of town has some cool shops + spots for a bite (try Poe's Tavern / Obstinate Daughter).
Folly Beach is a beach town ~20min drive from Charleston. It’s home to Folly Beach Pier, stretching more than 1,000 feet into the ocean. Center Street is lined with surf and souvenir shops, beach bars, and golf cart rentals. If you don't bring your own beach chair, you can rent one near the beach, along with umbrellas and nonmotorized water sports equipment.
THE raw bar to pick in Charleston. Best oysters and lobster rolls in town. No reservations - expect to wait a bit, but they have a great sister restaurant next door for a drink in the meantime. If you're feeling crazy, try the Oyster Brine Martini.
