Tomas and Kelsey attended Marietta College in Marietta, OH. While the two met in the first few days of moving to campus in 2002, it wasn't until their junior year that they really got to know one another. They were in macroeconomics together - a class Kelsey needed for her major and Tomas was taking as an elective. They were connected by Kristin Drain, Tomas's classmate and fellow petroleum engineering student, who suggested the three of them work together to study for the class. It soon became clear that Kristin didn't need to study for the class while Kelsey was struggling to understand it. Despite recalling (and understanding clearly) the myriad of Konsen family dinners where economics was the conversation centerpiece, Tomas offered to help her to understand. While Kelsey never did really grasp macroeconomics, she was so dedicated to learning that she's still with her tutor today.
Wyoming was an experience. The two love birds lived in a tiny garden apartment (read: cave) on Black Tooth Ave. Kelsey started out as the circulation director at The Gillette News Record and Tomas as a production engineer at Marathon Oil Company. After a stressful, short term experience as a glorified paper-girl, Kelsey found herself working for Wells Fargo Bank as a personal banker. Tomas and Kelsey loved their jobs in Gillette but needed more excitement from their town than the opening celebration of a Walmart Superstore. So after 2.5 years in the middle of nowhere, they moved to Houston, TX.
Tomas and Kelsey were ecstatic to move to Houston - great food, easy travel and a place where more than 15 people lived. They bought a house in West Houston (East San Antonio to their friends) and started their busy lives in Houston. Kelsey ultimately left Wells Fargo, went to graduate school at University of St Tomas and began teaching World Religions, Philosophy and Humanities for Strayer University. Tomas moved to reservoir engineering and worked on various teams throughout Marathon Oil. After 5 years of long commutes from the suburbs, they sold the West Houston home and bought a house much closer to central Houston. As if buying a house and selling another wasn't enough to do, Tomas also left Marathon and started with Sanchez Oil and Gas in the same time period.
As far as what they are doing now, Tomas is still with Sanchez Oil and Gas, working as a Senior Engineering Advisor while Kelsey has left classroom teaching in favor of starting her own yoga company - Yoga Balance. They've had the opportunity to travel to Greece, Mexico, Spain, Canada, Puerto Rico, England, Ireland and China during their (almost) 10 years of marriage and look forward to more traveling in the future. Kids haven't been in the cards for the Konsen's but their dogs, Moose and Willie, bark and whine to be pet, to eat, to be let outside and to be put on the couch to help the couple feel needed. Tomas and Kelsey hope the next 10 years are filled with travel, concerts, building of careers and lots of adventures with friends.
