We met in high school at Rock Creek Community Academy! Our younger sisters, Ella and Avery, were good friends, and one day our moms planned an outing to the walking bridge in Jeffersonville. We both just happened to tag along, and that afternoon on the bridge is when the spark started! What we didn’t know at the time was that our moms were secretly taking pictures of us that day - pictures we still have to this day! Looking back, it’s pretty special to have those first little moments captured :) - Thank ya Karen and Becky! Not long after that, we became BESTIES. We talked constantly and had long phone calls every night. It wasn't uncommon for us to wake up in the morning and realize we were still on the call. Somewhere along the way, our friendship started to turn into something more! When Sam was 15, he passed Kelsey a "Will you be my girlfriend? Check yes or no" note during school, written in invisible ink! It could only be seen with a blacklight so that people couldn't snoop. We still have the pen he used! :)
We were on a family vacation in Florida, and Sam had been planning the proposal for months. But Kelsey knows Sam way too well, she could tell something was up almost immediately. She was pretty sure it was going to happen on this trip, so she decided to have a little fun with it. On the first full day, Sam suggested we take sunset pictures together. That was the dead giveaway. Sam never volunteers for photos. Ever. Then on the walk back from the beach, he mentioned we needed to get ready for pictures that night, and Kelsey just said, “If that’s what you wanna do, this is your thing.” Sam whipped around and blurted out, “I’m not doing this for me - I’M DOING THIS FOR WE!” Kelsey immediately lost it. “For We” has been an inside joke ever since. The moment Sam proposed, a thunderstorm started and struck behind them (made for pretty cool videos). Kelsey told Sam she knew the proposal was coming and pulled up her Google search history to prove it, the last thing she searched was “do you wear the engagement ring on the left or right hand?” She was so nervous she forgot. Sam’s siblings, Kevin and Ella, were there with us, and Kevin was very excited. So excited, in fact, that he ripped his shirt off, screamed, and sprinted into the ocean. The thunder was so loud he couldn’t hear us yelling for him to come back. A thunderstorm proposal was pretty awesome, and the most on-brand thing that could have occurred! :)
