Andrew and I met as many great modern love stories do - on Hinge. Andrew had boldly chosen the prompt, “My most controversial opinion” and his answer was that he actually liked In-N-Out fries. Immediately, I was terrified but I was also curious. I was wondering what hurt him so badly that he would actually enjoy those.. Spoiler alert, I still have no idea. Andrew and I immediately hit it off, between our hatred of Boston Sports and our love of Dairy Queen blizzards, he was a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, I was a little down on my luck and I was testing positive for Covid, missing my sister-in-law’s bachelorette trip, and talking to a guy I met online that I couldn’t meet in person. Lucky for me, Andrew didn’t let that bother him and we took the time to get to know each other until I was able to get a negative Covid test. The day finally came and Andrew asked me what I like to eat, I told him I will eat anything except for seafood… Naturally, he suggested a sushi restaurant. Our first date ended up being at Blue Sushi in Uptown. We got along just as well in person and we stayed there talking and laughing for hours. Since that day Andrew has been in my life and I cannot imagine it any other way. Fast forward and we have now moved to the suburbs, combined our two little families (Loki and Chad), and purchased a house. From swiping right to saying “I do,” it was a match made in algorithm heaven!
We met on Hinge, which was, in my opinion at the time, the dating app to actually find someone actually worth being with. Obviously, my opinion turned out to be the correct one, as evidenced here! After talking for a bit, sharing the fun times of me going to the 2022 Ohio State-Michigan football game and our equal dislike of Boston sporting teams, we agreed on a date! I decided on dinner, and I asked if there was any foods she didn’t like. She responded by saying she was not the biggest fan of seafood, so naturally, in all my wisdom, picked a sushi restaurant. Pure coincidence, that sushi restaurant also had all day happy hour on Sunday, and that was the day we agreed on. The good news was, they had vegan sushi rolls and non seafood things, but it’s still something I get teased for to this day (validly so). The vegan sushi must have been pretty good, because we agreed on a second date at the end. Unfortunately, that second date wouldn’t be for another 6 weeks. I was going on a family cruise (as she would come to realize was a a semi-regular thing) and she was headed back to Florida for the holidays. We kept in constant touch over the 6 weeks, sharing jokes, memes, and all the things we were doing and thinking. I didn’t realize this at the time, because for me it felt so natural, but she was actually surprised we kept in close contact over a kind of long period of time. We ended up going on that second date, then a third, and so on and so on. It wasn’t made official until a steak dinner, and in my infinite charm, stated “So this is a thing, right?” That was the moment that really started it all. And just two years later (as of writing this) we’ve racked up: 1 engagement 1 purchased house 2 trips abroad 2 amazing pets 3 great siblings 4 amazing parents A few new friends Lots of new experiences A ton of fun dates And too many little moments together to count! I cant wait to keep adding to the list over the rest of our lives together!
